Urban Tones

The sunset drives in the city

The moon takes off in flight

What fades to sullen shadows

Loses direction in the night.

Hearts left under streetlamps

Packaged with a bow

Waiting for redemption

In an ambivalent amber glow.

Questions pace the pavement

Fueled by expectations

Disappointment douses out

The flames of fabrication.

Escape sits on a rooftop

With dreams yet to be met

Tomorrow-chase the sunrise

As a sentimental silhouette.

Stitches

She disconnected.

There's empty space,

Just broken mirrors on the floor.

What's real is what has been real all along,

But what's here is what's newly reflected.

She was extinguished.

Quieted.

What's behind her can't reach her anymore,

But there's still something burning,

Giving her shivers.

Whispers steal breath

Descending silently

Never to ascend again

Sorry, so sorrily,

Exposed.

She was so wrapped up,

She never noticed

She was there.

How did she ever get here?

Her bones are a mystery.

Flickering past.

Pieces placed together

Patches of pain

Pretend.

A gentle hand

Protect her

She needs you now

Breathe life

Breathe truth

Heal these stitches.

Walk and Follow

Here's another step onto the path ahead

No longer mixing bricks

or falling for the tricks

we thought were meant to be

but now one of us can see

leaving dreams behind for dead.

And maybe you were right

These dreams are a tight squeeze

We should be going places

but we're chained to the second hand

we're just dragged along

going in circles but never going back.

and maybe I was wrong

Just got twisted up in the wouldn't it be greats

and the If only if only's

but hey what can I say

I'm just a girl

with a little more passion than she bargained for.

But here I am,

my path is in front of me

It's under my feet

I'm walkin' on with uncertainty

Yet there's a bounce in my step

and fresh air in my lungs

so I'll be fine where I am

Cuz I'm not going alone.

I'm don't know where I'm going

and I hope you don't mind

if you need me, find Jesus-

I won't be far behind.

Lost At Sea

My dear,

I see you there

searchin' for somethin',

we're lost at sea.

Don't know why you're there

in front of me

on the horizon,

but I can see

the sun is falling for you.

Embrace her, she's yours

she shines so bright

she puts on her best red dress

and invites the night.

Take it, this chance

It's been given to you

Is it in her? the truth?

I always knew

You'd find somethin'

worth dying for.

So dearest

let no currents whisk you away

let no troubles wish you awake

follow her 'til she ignites a new day

If its right, then go.

you be the arrow, I'll be the bow.

If it's not meant to be,

stay here with me--

lost at sea.

Is It Just Me?

What was only supposed to be a passing thought,

Has turned into a brick wall.

A supposed breeze of indifference,

Is quaking inside my head.

You pull the strings so predictably,

Yet my heart plays in the pitch black.

Don't know why I waste my time

When you're just another dead end.

Falling for an idea, a thrill, a chance

Never fearing the inevitable

On a one way train to nowhere

where the inevitable fears me

I'm such a switch.

I'm sick of this.

You know, you know,

What the problem is?

It's this.

It's that.

It's me.

Again.

It's this.

It's that.

It's me.

The end?

Speechless.

Lord I'm on the floor in pieces

so broken and confused

Wishing that this world

hadn't left me this abused.

There's a struggle in my heart

to fix this flawed creation

Can't do it on my own Lord

Let me feel that clean sensation.

I've defeated myself

more times than I can bear.

I need to give it up Lord,

Take away this ugly fear.

Need that freedom you offer,

That deep breath of fresh air.

Lord I'm just so scared

Lord I'm just so scared

Of the love that we could share.

Its so much more than anything

That I could ask for here.

it's unconditional

it's unforgettable

Lord I'm speechless that you're near.

A Dangerous Safe

You're a ticking clock.

A constant reminder

Of impending doom;

A dangerous safe.

My pulse is winning,

But you've already won.

But I can't give up,

Not that easily.

I don't know what it is

But you have it.

I don't know how you got it,

But I want it.

I'll crack the code

That is your mind-

Finding answers

That disintegrate in light.

In the dust

I'll write my name

And leave a kiss

To remember me by.

Before too long,

The wind will carry me away,

And I will become an echo

Of a ticking clock.
